Apar Gupta is the executive director of the Internet Freedom Foundation (IFF) and an Ashoka Fellow for his work on digital rights. IFF as an advocacy non-profit organisation in India has been actively working on the regulation of issues of surveillance and malware. This includes providing legal support for victims and transparency efforts on Pegasus.

This session will explore lessons that can be learned from the Global Network Initiative’s history and work to promote responsible business conduct in the broader ICT sector, including the extent to which these initiatives may provide lessons for how (and how not) to improve transparency, rights protection, and accountability in the surveillance tech space.
